Ray Conniff is triply blessed. His artistry covers three separate and distinct areas: First, as an instrumentalist, Conniff has distinguished himself with the innovative instrumental sound which consists of instruments and voices (without words), a sound that has sold millions of records. Second, the Ray Conniff Singers are perhaps the best known chorus in the world; again, with many millions of record sales. Third, what is not so well known, is that Ray Conniff had an amazing number of hits while working with other artists in his early days with CBS Records. Ray wrote the arrangements for Johnny Mathis' first big successes, "Chances Are," "It's Not for Me to Say," "Wonderful! Wonderful!" and others; for Johnnie Ray "Just Walking In the Rain," for Marty Robbins "A White Sport Coat," for Don Cherry "Band of Gold" and many more.
But he left this area to become an artist in his own right.
When the question arose as to what Ray would do in Nashville, we embarked on a project that had exceptional possibilities ñ Ray Conniff providing his artistry and support for ten exciting country artists! Matchless Billy Sherrill spearheaded the entire project and Ray supplied his brilliant arrangements and singers.
From the beginning, I foresaw an album that was both definitive and special. I think the mixture of country artists, pop/country arrangements, standard and country songs, together with the creative genius of Conniff and Sherrill, is just that.
We're very proud of this album. I hope you like it, too.
